Course Description

This program offers a comprehensive introduction to the foundational principles of Global Trade Law and the essential role of the World Trade Organization (WTO). It is designed to provide participants with a clear understanding of the rules that govern international commerce. The curriculum covers the core agreements and fundamental principles of the multilateral trading system, including Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Treatment (GATT Article I), National Treatment (GATT Article III), and the principles of non-discrimination and market access.

The course explores the function and structure of the WTO, its historical evolution from the GATT, and the key areas of trade regulation, such as Trade in Goods, Trade in Services (GATS), and Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). A significant component of the course is dedicated to the WTO Dispute Settlement System (DSS), analyzing its procedures and landmark cases. By integrating legal texts with practical policy applications, participants will gain the necessary literacy to understand trade liberalization, the use of trade remedies (e.g., anti-dumping measures), and the challenges facing the contemporary global trade order.
